Who is the King of Glory? (Psalm 24)

Psalm 24:
1 The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,
2 for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.
3 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.
5 He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle!
9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Psalm 24 was written by David and was sung by the people of Israel during the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), a celebration that remembers the 40 years the Hebrews wandered in the desert after leaving Egypt.

This psalm praises the greatness of God, recognizing the LORD as the Creator of the universe and affirming his absolute authority over all things.

Psalm 24:1-2 The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.

We also find in this psalm the revelation that only the upright in heart will achieve the LORD's blessing and salvation.

Psalm 24:3-6 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

In verse 7, David exalts the LORD as the King of Glory, symbolically declaring that even the gates must lift themselves up so that He can enter — a poetic image that expresses God's majesty, greatness, and supremacy.

Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Finally, David affirms that the LORD is strong, mighty, and victorious — the true King of Glory.

Psalm 24:8,10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle!... The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory!

BE A WORSHIPER OF GOD TOO, JUST LIKE DAVID WAS.

Open wide the doors of your heart and allow the King of Glory to come in, because God's desire is to reveal his glory to you.

Be upright in heart to achieve the LORD's blessings, for only the upright will receive his righteousness. And remember: God's Word never returns empty.

Psalm 24:4-5 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
