EASTER AND PASSOVER (PESSACH) (Exodus 12:11)
PASSOVER, originally Pessach in Hebrew, means passage. There is a lot of misunderstanding inside and outside the church about what God originally established as Passover, so I would like to clarify this biblically.
The word Passover is originally from the Hebrew PESSACH and means PASSAGE.
The celebration of Passover was instituted by God in a perpetual way in the book of Exodus 12.
Exodus 12:14 This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.
Passover celebrates God’s power to deliver His people from slavery and death.
In Egypt, on the night Passover was instituted, the Israelites were commanded to kill a perfect one‑year‑old lamb and place its blood on the doorposts and lintel of their homes. God would pass through the land and strike the firstborn of Egypt, both humans and animals.
Exodus 12:7 Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD .
Exodus 12:13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
When God saw the blood of the lamb, He passed over that house, and destruction did not touch it.
This event took place around 1500 BC and was a prophetic foreshadowing of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ — the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!.
Through the blood of Jesus, we have been set free from the bondage of sin, and death no longer has authority over us.
1 Corinthians 15:54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory.
Hebrews 2:14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil.
We were reconciled to God through the sacrifice of the true Passover Lamb, Jesus Christ. His blood over our lives has the same power that protected Israel in Egypt — it delivers us from suffering, slavery, and death.
For this reason, Christians should not be distracted by cultural and demonic traditions such as rabbits and chocolate eggs. Instead, we should celebrate Christ, our Passover Lamb.
1 Corinthians 5:7 Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
On Easter Sunday, celebrate the Lord with your family in joy and worship, remembering that Jesus died for all — but not all have received Him. His blood is available, but it has not yet been applied to every life, DON'T BE ONE OF THEM.
